Charcot-Leyden crystals in a prostatic adenocarcinoma
نویسنده
چکیده
A transrectal needle biopsy from a 63-year-old man was decided because of a high prostatic specific antigen in the blood, and a hard right lobe in rectal examination. 10 examples were taken from each lobe. In 1 of 4 of the examples from the left lobe, which contained a small focus of adenocarcinoma, numerous eosinophils were observed to surround the carcinomatous focus and attack the carcinoma cells. Uniquely, at the same focus Charcot-Leyden crystals could be seen in the intraluminal space and stromal area. A carcinoma oriented eosinophil accumulation, and Charcot-Leyden crystals in prostate was not described before.

Charcot-Leyden Crystals in Hodgkin's Lym-phoma
Herein, we reported on a middle-aged woman presented with painless cervical lymphadenopathy. Past medical history was not significant. Pathologic examination of incisional biopsy show partial effacement of lymph node architecture with many reactive inflammatory cells admixed with Reed-Sternberg cells, many Charcot-Leyden crystals, and noncaseating granuloma. Immunohistochemical staining was pos...
متن کاملEffects of Synthetic Detergents and Other Agents on Eosinophils in the Formation of Charcot-Leyden Crystals
ECENTLY,’ the senior author reported a method by which Charcot-Leyden crystals could be formed rapidly and constantly from eosinophils with a detergent and wetting agent, dihexyl sodium sulfosuccinate, (Aerosol MA). It was found that crystals could be formed in the buffy coat of per cent of 100 routine hospital admissions within twenty-four hours by this technic. Using the Aerosol MA technic in...
متن کاملIdentification of human eosinophil lysophospholipase as the constituent of Charcot-Leyden crystals.
Since the initial descriptions of Charcot-Leyden crystals more than 100 years ago, the presence of these slender, dipyramidal crystals in human tissues and biologic fluids has become a hallmark of eosinophilic leukocyte infiltration, especially in association with allergic and helminthic diseases. The formation of these crystals in vitro after disruption of human eosinophils, but not of other c...
متن کاملCharcot-Leyden crystals and Curschmann spirals in asthmatic sputum.
More than a century has elapsed since the microscopic examination of the sputum of asthmatic patients revealed characteristic crystals (so called "asthma crystals") and spirals, which are now referred to respectively as Charcot-Leyden crystals and Curschmann spirals. This paper relates the story of their discovery, the eponymous personalities concerned, the development of our knowledge of these...
متن کاملFormation of Charcot-leyden Crystals in Human Eosinophils and Basophils and Study of the Composition of Isolated Crystals
Methods are described for the isolation of human eosinophils and basophils from donor blood. Using these cell preparations Charcot-Leyden crystals were found to originate from both eosinophils and basophils when the cells were suspended in hypotonic saline solution. The crystals formed also when saline extracts of eosinophils and basophils were concentrated by ultrafiltration through dialysis t...
